''The songs have to mean something...'

After cutting his teeth as a keyboard player in several northern Rock bands including the mighty Springsteen tribute band Glory Days, Johnny stepped out of the shadows to become, what has recently been described by a first time witness to one of his blistering live performances, as a 'whole punk rock band in one man!'

Johnny writes his acoustic punk troubadour songs straight from the heart, telling it as he sees it, whether it is astute social/political observations and questioning of current issues, the real life pressures and challenges we all face in our day to day lives or the ragged and romantic escapism of the road, Johnny always looks to deliver with the passion and fury of his heroes Joe Strummer and Bruce Springsteen.

Johnny launched his debut album 'Tiny Ripples of Hope' in 2017 with a series of uncompromising live shows which have showcased both his impassioned performances and the musicality and power of The Promise. Strongly influenced by the lyrical bite of Joe Strummer, the cinematic imagery of Bruce Springsteen and the heart on the sleeve rallying cries of Frank Turner, Johnny is also undoubtedly a disciple of Woodie Guthrie. The central themes of the songs on both the album and his debut EP 'This Is 2017' are People, Travel & Social/ Political struggles.

Johnny often says 'The songs have to mean something. The delivery of the songs has to mean something too.'

The band consists of Andy Jakeman on drums, Paul Randall on bass and Alan Jones and Nigel Worth sharing lead guitar duties. Johnny plays acoustic guitar and keyboards. The band has played in various guises over the years but this is the first time that they have all come together to create and perform original music. They marry tender subtlety with a fire and fury befitting the often incendiary lyrical content of the music. A potent mix. And the perfect rallying cry for these troubled times.
